Scared of the Dentist?
Many patients can get nervous at the thought of a visit to the Dentist- often meaning that they avoid a trip unless they are in severe pain or unable to eat.
Whether you’re visiting for a check-up or treatment, many dental surgeries now offer sedation to help anxious patients overcome their fears.
Intravenous (IV) sedation
This type of sedation is administered quickly and comfortably with a needle and is a highly effective way of helping a patient to relax.
With intravenous sedation you will feel calm and relaxed, although you might feel slightly drowsy and unaware of what is going on around you, you will still be able to communicate with the dentist.
The effects of intravenous sedation can take several hours to wear off and because of this, you will not be able to make your way home on your own.
You will need to bring someone along with you to your appointment and will also need to make sure someone is around to look after you for a few hours when you get home.
